“The photo ops are endless here.”
Just a few of the many reasons to visit Coney Island.
It ONLY took 25 years of living in New York and 3 months of pleading with my boyfriend for me to actually get here.
So if you’ve also never been, just know this: it’s a destination in itself.
This iconic peninsula (not actually an island!) at the very end of Brooklyn is totally worth the trek. You could get lost in the sights and sounds for hours.
From food and rides to landmarks and people watching, there’s so much fun to have. Although this summer might have marked my first experience at Coney Island, it definitely won’t be my last.
If you’re considering going, here’s eight things you need to check out (besides the photo ops):
Rides that’ll make your stomach drop, games that might win you a giant panda bear, cotton candy and all the other things you’d expect from an amusempark. If it’s open, ride the famous Cyclone.
Magicians, performers, dancers and live music all over the boardwalk.
An installation of giant walls and murals filled with some killer street art.
Abandoned Parachute Jump
What used to be an amusement ride but was closed down in 1964. Now it’s an iconic staple in the Coney Island skyline, and has been called the “Eiffel Tower of Brooklyn.”
Ruby’s Bar & Grill
A traditional, classic boardwalk beach bar since 1934. Grab some fried shrimp and a beer.
Need I say more??? The original, iconic, Nathan’ Famous. Home to the 4th of July Hot Dog Eating Contest, and anchoring Coney Island for 100 years.
Deno’s Wonder Wheel
At one point in time this giant ferris wheel might have been the tallest in the world. Now, Deno’s Wonder Wheel is a classic at Coney.
Sunsets on the Pier
Got enough reasons to visit Coney Island, but still wondering how to get there? Just take the N or Q subway train to the very last stop.
